How to get your children to watch 8 hours of TV...only 2 weekends per year

This weekend was General Conference (or as Lilly would say, "Stake Conference." We had to keep correcting her). I was extremely impressed at how well Lilly and Owen did. I had done a lot of preparation for this coming weekend so as to help them understand how important and how lucky we are to listen to the Prophet and His Apostles.

Here are some of the things I had for them:
Lilly wrote out the name of each member or First Presidnecy and Quorum of 12 Apostles and paired it with their picture and a candy that had a wrapper with their name and picture on it. As each member spoke, she got to eat their candy. Also, I had a paper for each member with interesting facts about them, a face for her to draw their features, a tie for her to draw their tie design, and other neat activities.
LILLY LOVED IT! She thought it was so funny to see which ones wore glasses, which ones were bald, and what color tie they were wearing.

I also had pictures of each member of the First Presidency and Quorum of the 12 Apostles as a boy and as they are now so they could see that they were kids once too. I put them on skewers and put them in a vase so the kids could go through them and look at each man as a boy.
The last thing was a Bingo card with different topics or words pertaining to the Gospel. As they heard each word, they put a cheerio on it. I was really impressed at how this made Lilly LISTEN to each talk.
Yesterday after the Saturday Afternoon Session, I turned the TV off and Lilly started crying. After asking her "why," she responded by saying she wanted to watch more conference. This morning she couldn't wait until 9am when we got to turn on the TV and watch more. She knows almost all of the General Authorities by name and wanted to know what they were talking about and whether or not they were bearing their testimony.
I hope this excitement about the Gospel continues well into her teenage years!
8 hours of TV well worth it!
